Stanislav Cherchesov, the former head coach of the Russian national team, who participated in the broadcast of the Russia 24 TV channel, said that he turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia to head the club, since at that time he headed the Hungarian Ferencvaros.
There were principles and understanding that I was the head coach of Ferencváros. We had goals and objectives that we set. Therefore, I had no doubts about my actions, ”said Cherchesov.
Cherchesov became head of Ferencvaros at the end of December 2021. He led the team to victory in the championship and in the country cup. He was fired after being eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers in July 2023.
At his home World Cup, the team under his leadership made it to the quarter-finals, where they lost to the tournament’s finalist, the Croatian national team. It is worth noting that after his departure, the Russian national team no longer achieved success.
