Former junior world number two Anastasia Pivovarova praised the match played by Russian Andrei Rublev’s compatriot Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the US Open. In a comment to socialbites.ca, he expressed the opinion that Rublev did not have the patience and physical preparation for an equal fight.
“Rublev regained his match points but they were all so close that even if he regained all of his match points and won this match, it didn’t seem like it would be enough for two more games. Both could barely stand, and Rublev did not have the patience or strength to fight any longer. He was so weak that he was serving a double and it was clear that his body control was weak. He didn’t have the physical capacity or the patience to handle such harsh climatic conditions and Dani’s steady play.
Yes, he did break a few times in the third set and unfortunately lost his serve again quite easily. There were many faults without difficulty. It’s a shame, because he fought in Medvedev’s service and then made simple mistakes on his own. Apparently, he just didn’t have enough stamina to play the whole match to get at least one set from Dani, ”thinks Pivovarova.
Medvedev defeated Rublev in three sets: 6:4, 6:3, 6:4. At the same time, in the final match, Andrey managed to regain four match points, but still could not change the course of the match. In the semi-finals, Medvedev will play the world’s first racket against Spaniard Carlos Alcaras, who in turn knocked out German Alexander Zverev. The match between Medvedev and Alcaraz will be played on Friday, September 8 and will not start before 10 PM Moscow time.
