Former junior world number 2 Anastasia Pivovarova talked about Medvedev’s medical break due to needing a ventilator during the fourth round match between Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Australia’s Alex de Minor at the Russian Open. During a meeting with socialbites.ca, Pivovarova expressed hope that her breathing problems will not affect Daniil in the next match.
“Tennis players have a hard time focusing on the game when they have to deal with heat and high humidity as well as opponents. Medvedev said that he went to the doctor before the match, but despite being prepared for the De Minor match, he still had to take a break due to shortness of breath. Ons Jaber, who experienced similar symptoms, unfortunately could not cope with the situation and left the US Open. I hope Daniel’s health will not be a deciding factor and will not affect the outcome of the next match,” said Pivovarova.
Medvedev defeated De Minor in four sets: 2:6, 6:4, 6:1, 6:2. His next opponent will be compatriot Andrey Rublev, who knocked out British Jack Draper.
