Former IIHF member explains the purpose of the organization’s sanctions against CSKA

Shimon Shemberg, president of the European Hockey Club Alliance and former press spokesperson of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), explained on his social networks what the purpose of the organization that sanctioned CSKA was.

“The IIHF imposed sanctions on Ivan Fedotov on August 14 and banned international transfers of CSKA Moscow players for a period of one year. The purpose of the International Ice Hockey Federation’s sanctions is to force CSKA to let him go and return to Philadelphia,” wrote Schemberg.

On August 14, the IIHF penalized CSKA with a one-season international transfer ban. In addition, the team’s goalkeeper, Ivan Fedotov, will not be able to play in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) until December 31, 2023.

From July 2022 to July 2023 Fedotov served in the army. He was currently contracted with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).

On September 1, Fedotov went on the ice against Ak Bars in the opening game of the KHL season. The goalkeeper spent the entire match conceding 5 goals.
