Valentina Rodionenko, head coach of the Russian national gymnastics team, said: “Match TV”that it is difficult to maintain a reserve of young athletes under conditions of exclusion.

“Our future? We have a good reserve, we have to protect it. It is very difficult under the sanctions. There is no incentive. Our Olympians say directly: “What are we training for?” But those who think will understand that all this is not forever. Yes, someone will miss the Paris Games, but life this,” said Rodionenko.

On May 2, the Executive Committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) postponed the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions until July. Recall that they have not played in international tournaments since last spring. Now they are participating in the Cup of Russia.

At its executive committee meeting on March 28, 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that the Russians be allowed to remain in neutral status if the athletes do not actively support hostilities.

The question of the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games in Paris is still open.
