American fighter with a Russian passport, Jeff Monson, explained why more and more foreign athletes are seeking Russian citizenship. His words convey Sports24.

“More and more people are realizing that US policy is inhumane. Many athletes face this situation and are tired of being part of this system. For this reason, many athletes from different countries want to obtain Russian citizenship.

For them, the Russian passport can provide new opportunities to express themselves and help the country. “I think the influx of foreign athletes into Russia is good,” said Monson.

On August 18, Jeff Monson fought against Oleg Taktarov according to boxing rules. This fight took place as part of the REN TV boxing night and ended in a draw. For Taktarov, 55, the fight against Monson at the tournament in Moscow was the first in more than a decade.

Monson competed in mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He has won the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships twice and is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion. Monson is a former UFC heavyweight title contender.
