The International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) awarded Russian athlete Natalia Gemperle (Vinogradova) the right to compete for Switzerland. This has been reported TASS.
The athlete married the Swiss Rolf Gemperle in 2016. So she was able to change her sports citizenship to Switzerland, having lived in this country for more than three years. The athlete has never represented Russia in track and field competitions.
On August 17, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe said that Russian athletes will most likely not compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
The games in the French capital will be held from July 26 to August 11.
