Former goalkeeper of the USSR national team and Spartak Moscow, Anzor Kavazashvili was skeptical about the introduction of a new limit on foreign players in the Russian Premier League (RPL) from next season.
“I don’t understand, we really didn’t understand that during the time we played with the legionnaires it’s not about foreigners, but we need to train our own players. These 13 foreign players will not be able to save Russian football. And then why do we need Russian football players in general? Let’s recruit full cadres of foreigners and our players will go to work as workers. Congrats to the members of the executive committee of the RFU! — Quotes from Kavazashvili “Pair TV”.
It was learned yesterday that in the new season, RPL clubs can have 13 foreign players in practice. It is worth noting that only eight of them can be on the field at the same time.
Before the new limit was applied, clubs could only take on eight foreign players and put them all on the field at the same time.
It is worth noting that the International Football Federation (FIFA) allows, due to the situation in Ukraine, legionnaires playing in the RPL to suspend their contracts with Russian clubs until 30 June 2022. No decision has yet been made regarding the next season.
Formerly Georgy Cherdantsev declarationthat the departure of the legionnaires was not a violation of the sporting principle of the competition.
