16-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva advanced to the second round at the WTA-250 series tournament held in Cleveland, USA, by defeating German athlete Tamara Korpach at the beginning of the tournament.
The match, which lasted 2 hours and 17 minutes, ended with the score of 6:0, 3:6, 7:5 in three sets.
In the next round, Andreeva will meet the winner of the pair Sloan Stevens (USA) – Lauren Davis (USA).
Thanks to her successful performance at Wimbledon 2023, the Russian woman entered the Top 100 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings for the first time. It is ranked 67th. In April, at a competition in Madrid, she became the youngest tennis player to reach the fourth round of WTA 1000 tournaments since their reform in 2009.
The tournament in Cleveland will be held August 20-28.
Andreeva was supposed to play with American tennis player Venus Williams in the first round of the tournament, but she decided to withdraw from the tournament due to a knee injury that plagued her. This became known on August 21.
