Former CSKA goalkeeping coach Vyacheslav Chanov explained why they established the academy together with goalkeeper and army club captain Igor Akinfeev, stating why they only work on goalkeeping training. The words of an expert lead legal betting.
“We created it to preserve the wonderful things that Yashin and others have promoted. Our Russian goalkeeping school has always been considered a high level all over the world. Is it possible to train goalkeepers outside the team in our academy? It’s unlikely,” Chanov said.
The specialist has been working as a goalkeeping coach for CSKA intermittently since 1995. During his work with the team, he trained and brought such goalkeepers as Igor Akinfeev, Vladimir Gabulov, Veniamin Mandrykin to the main team of the club and the national team. He moved to the infrastructure staff in 2015, and left the army club structure in 2016.
Akinfeev is a CSKA graduate. He has 744 matches in total with the red-blues. Together with the team, he became the Russian champion six times, won the Russian Cup seven times and won the UEFA Cup in the 2004/05 season. In 2023, the goalkeeper celebrates the 20th anniversary of his debut in adult football.
