Chris Lamorello, deputy general manager of the National Hockey League (NHL) club New York Islanders, said that while talking about re-signing Russian goalkeepers Semyon Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin, the strength of the team lies in stability and admitted: he is satisfied with the goalkeepers. His words are quoted by the press service of the “islanders”.
“We are very lucky that Sorokin and Varlamov stayed with us. They have signed long-term contracts and are a big part of our present and future. Once you start a team with these two goalkeepers, you know you have a chance to win every night,” said Lamorello.
Varlamov signed a new four-year contract with a cap of $2.75 million, Sorokin signed an eight-year deal with a cap of $8.25 million.
Sorokin has been playing for the Islanders since 2021, playing for CSKA, Metallurg and Zvezda in Russia. Varlamov has been playing for the club from New York since 2019, before that he played in the NHL for the Colorado Avalanche and Washington Capitals, defending Lokomotiv’s colors from Yaroslavl in Russia.
