UEFA has announced the shortlist of footballers who will compete for the Best UEFA Player of the Year 22-23 award. The three football players are: Van Bruyne, Haaland and Leo Messi.

The two Manchester City players and the ex-PSG player, currently in the ranks of Inter Miami, are competing for an award to be presented in Monte Carlo on August 31.

These prices take into account the season running both in their club and in the national team of players who have played in European football.

The merits of the finalists

De Bruyne and Haaland have had an extraordinary season at their club. With the City shirt they have lifted the Premier, the FA Cup and the Champions League on an unbeatable course. In addition, they were the most outstanding men in Guardiola’s team. The more than fifty goals from Haaland and the goals and assists from De Bruyne, transformed into the engine of a perfect machine, were decisive in a historic course.

They have not been able to stand out with their selections. The Belgian World Cup was discreet and Haaland was unable to play it as Norway was not classified

It is true that Messi’s year at PSG was not so brilliant. The Argentine improved on his first season performance, recording 16 goals and 16 assists that decisively helped his club win the Ligue 1 title, but again the Parisians fell prematurely in the Champions League, this time to Bayern Munich.

Now the World Cup in Qatar is the one that ensures that all predictions point to Messi. In a World Cup year, this title carries a lot of weight and Leo not only ended his career by winning the title for his country, but he was also the best player in the championship, scoring seven goals.

In two weeks, in Monte Carlo, we will let go of the doubts.
