International Chess Federation bans transgender people from participating in women’s tournaments

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) has temporarily banned male-to-female players from playing in women’s tournaments. It has been reported press office organizations.

It was noted that such chess players will be able to participate in open tournaments and all their titles will remain in force. At the same time, if a woman changes her gender to male, the titles of women’s tournaments will not be recorded. Grandmasters will be able to regain their titles if they undergo a reverse gender reassignment.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

Russian grandmasters may compete under the flags of the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) or the International Chess Federation.
