Former Russian tennis player Varvara Gracheva admitted that she received a lot of positive messages after she changed her sports citizenship to French. Transmits words L.
“I got so many positive messages and it was so nice to feel accepted in this way. Of course, I’m of Russian descent and I thought many people would see this as an opportunistic ploy, for example, to become France’s second racket. But that’s not my point, and everyone understood that. Indeed, I am happy with the way I was received. And that didn’t bother me, because I know who I am,” Gracheva said.
It is worth noting that Gracheva has been studying in Cannes since 2016, having lived in France for seven years.
In the updated ranking of the WTA Women’s Tennis Association, 22-year-old Gracheva is ranked 45th. Polish representative Iga Swiatek continues to lead the ranking. In the second place is the representative of Belarus, Arina Sobolenko, while Jessica Pegula closes the top three. The best among Russians is Lyudmila Samsonova.
