The match that will occupy the second half of the year in Argentine football will reward a national cup title and a place in the Champions Trophy.
Following River’s inauguration as champions of the 2023 Professional League tournament, the second half of Argentina’s First Division football season will be occupied by the fourth edition of the Professional League Cup, a competition that awards a Cup title National to the winner.

The tournament, which this time takes place after the championship, has a lot to define and fill in GOAL we tell you all the details.
SIZE, CUP CLASSIFICATION AND REMOVALS
As has been the case since the 2018/19 season, when the Super League still existed, the season calendar is divided into two championships with two different formats: the LPF tournament, which plays all against each other in one wheel and awards the league title to the winner, and the LPF Cup, which is played in two zones and counts as the National Cup.
With 28 teams in the First Divisionthe League Cup is played with two zones of 14 teams each that they will all face each other within each group. In addition, there will be an interzonal date on which all Argentine football classics will be played in the same weekend.
The top four from each zone qualify for the quarterfinals (the first of each group plays against the fourth placed of the other and the second against the third) and the qualifying rounds are played in one match, with the first phase played on the field of the best placed and the semi-final and the end , on neutral ground.
The winner of the match qualifies to play the Champions Trophy against River and gets a spot in the Libertadores Cup 2024. In addition, three places will also be determined for that continental competition and six for the Copa Sudamericana via the Annual Table.

The LPF Cup will also determine the two relegations to the First National: one is solved using the Averages table and the rest through the Financial Statements.
WHEN IT STARTS AND WHEN IT ENDS
LThe group stage of the LPF Cup starts on Friday August 18 and ends in the weekend of Sunday November 26. The quarter-finals will be played on the weekend of Sunday December 3, the semi-finals are on Friday December 8 and the final is scheduled Saturday December 16
DATES BETWEEN THE WEEK AND BREAKS

The League Cup will have four weekends without activity, three due to the dispute over FIFA dates, on Sunday, September 10, October 15 and November 19, and one due to the development of the presidential election, on October 22. For this reason, three dates are played during the week in the group stage: the fifth is on Wednesday 20 September and the ninth and tenth will be played on Wednesday 18 and 25 October respectively.
HOW AND WHEN THE DRAW WAS
The draw for the calendar for the entire 2023 season has taken place on Thursday, November 3, 2022 on the grounds of Ezeiza, recently renamed “Lionel Messi”. The composition of the groups was carried out by pairs of teams (if Boca moved to one area, River automatically fell into the other) and the game was determined by a mathematical formula.
