Czech hockey player gets Russian passport

Alexander Chebotarev, general manager of the Continental Hockey League (KHL) “Lada” club, said that Czech player Ostap Safin received a Russian passport and is no longer considered a legionnaire in the tournament. Transmits words “Match TV”.

“Safin had Russian citizenship, he has twice. He came to us with a Russian passport, which he got at the Czech Republic consulate. On August 11, Ostap received a Russian passport, now he is a citizen of that country and is not considered a legionnaire. “We are now signing a contract with him for the season,” said Chebotarev.

On July 17, the sports director of the Togliatti club Rafik Yakubov said that Ostap Safin would leave the Czech national team in the future to enter the Russian national team.

Safin was born in Prague. He played for Sparta in the Czech Republic and then played for clubs in the American Hockey League (AHL). He spent last season at home.

As part of the Czech national team, the striker participated in the Junior World Championships (2017) and the World Junior Championships (2018).
