Luciano Spalletti, former coach of St. Petersburg “Zenith” and “Naples”, is the favorite in the fight for the head coach of the Italian national team. This was reported on Twitter by journalist Nicolo Schira.
According to him, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) prefers Spalletti. He could be signed by 2026, but this move requires a €3.2m release clause to his former club Napoli.FIGC is unwilling to pay. The negotiations, in which the parties will try to find a solution, will take place on 15 August.
On 13 August, Roberto Mancini left his post as head coach of the Italian national team. He led the team from 2018 to 2023 and led them to victory at the 2020 European Championship. In the decisive match, the Italians beat England on penalties.
