State Duma deputy, two-time Olympic hockey champion Vyacheslav Fetisov condemned Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada’s appeal to Western countries not to let Russian athletes into their territory. Transmits words “VsePro Sport”.

“Maybe they don’t really understand. In the Olympic movement in general, international federations are forbidden to interfere in all the affairs of the state. If they do not understand what they are offering, then you can probably now offer whatever you want. One of the basic conditions of world sport is that the state does not interfere in the work of public institutions.

Is it really possible to develop such an event as the ban on Russian entry into the territory of foreign states? No, all this has no legal justification, first and second, a lot of things are happening in the world right now, for example in Africa, there are 25 conflicts just in case, as I understand it, different ones of all kinds.

Probably, the Verkhovna Rada also needs to pay attention to this somehow. “The reaction of the states, and most importantly the International Olympic Committee, will be interesting,” said Fetisov.

On August 9, the Youth and Sports Committee of Ukraine developed a project with the proposal of the Verkhovna Rada to send a call to world leaders asking them to ban Russian athletes from entering the territories of other countries.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

At a meeting of the IOC executive committee on March 28, it was recommended to allow the Russians to have a neutral status, if the athletes were not actively engaged in supporting hostilities.
