Rodnina answers question about husband losing Olympic medals 02:18

State Duma deputy Irina Rodnina, a three-time Olympic champion in pair skating, said that her ex-husband Alexander Zaitsev had nothing to do with her medals. Transmits words “Sport Express”.

“I just keep my medals. I broke up with Zaitsev in 1985. We haven’t lived together since 1985. I don’t know where he keeps the medals. I will not explain the words of Zaitsev, ”said Rodnina.

In July, it was learned that the 1980 Olympic Games medal that Zaitsev won with Rodnina had been sold during the RR Auction.

The figure skater’s Olympic gold medal cost $93,000.

Together with Rodnina, Zaitsev became two-time Olympic champion in 1976 and 1980. The couple also won six world championships gold medals, with skaters climbing the highest step of the podium from 1973 to 1978. Seven times Rodnina and Zaitsev won the European championship (1973-1978, 1980).

Rodnina and Zaitsev were together from 1975 to 1985. In the marriage, their son Alexander was born. Then the skater got married a second time. Filmmaker Leonid Minkovsky became her chosen one. The couple divorced in 1992.
