Crimean clubs refused to participate in the Russian Cup

Sevastopol Director-General Valery Chaly spoke about the club’s problems that will not allow it to take part in the Russian Cup 2023/24 season. Transmits words “Sport Express”.

“We decided to refuse to participate in the Russian Cup because we do not have the resources at the moment. Now we have a problem with composition. There is no opportunity to simply engage in both sports components and others. We are focused on the championship. The championship is something new for us as it is an interesting competition. Last year’s Cup was so messy I don’t even know who we could take there,” Chaly said.

Previously, Rubin from Yalta had refused to participate in the tournament.

In the new season, Sevastopol and Rubin from Yalta will meet in the First League. In addition, Khimki and Torpedo, who left the Russian Premier League (RPL), will also join this division.

The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Association of European Football Associations (UEFA) decided last spring to exclude all Russian clubs, as well as the Russian national team, from all competitions controlled by these organisations.
