“If they wanted to let us in, such a decision would have already been made. Or they are waiting for a special military operation to end. It can only be guessed. “I don’t see any chances so far,” Fetisov said.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will send invitations to the Games on July 26. Russia and Belarus will not be invited due to the special operation in Ukraine.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued a call to international sports federations, advising them not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in any competitions.
At a meeting of the IOC executive committee on March 28, it was recommended to allow the Russians to have a neutral status, if the athletes were not actively engaged in supporting hostilities.
