“If such a statement is made officially, it can be evaluated. But I am absolutely sure that there will be no reaction to it. I think it was said more out of fear, its athletes are afraid, ”said Tarasova.
Svitolina said that the Professional Tennis Players Association (ATP) and the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) should issue a statement that Ukrainian players will not shake hands with Russians and Belarusians.
Svitolina played her last match at Wimbledon against Belarusian tennis player Victoria Azarenka. The athletes did not shake hands.
Wimbledon started on July 3 and will run until July 16. The tournament’s prize fund is £44,700,000.
Wimbledon winners in 2022 are Elena Rybakina (Kazakhstan) and Novak Djokovic (Serbia).
Last year, Russian tennis players did not participate in the tournament because they were suspended.
