The Galician made history in our football after moving through Barça and the national team, and in Italy before his stay at Inter Milan
On Sunday, July 9, Luis Suárez Miramontes passed away at the age of 88. Born in A Coruña, he has left an indelible mark on Spanish football. As for the sport, he will always be remembered as the first man born in our country (and for now the only one) who managed to win the Ballon d’Or.
He did it in 1960, a decade in which he also achieved another memorable milestone: he won the 1964 Euro Cup with Spain; the first of the three that La Roja has in its display cases. At club level, he was able to make his mark at Barça, where he played for seven seasons and won two leagues, two Fair Cups and two Generalissimo Cups.
He is also very popular in Italy as he was an important football player for Inter Milan and we must not forget that he was the absolute coach of Spain between 1988 and 1991, hence he was a very influential person in our football.
