Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva advanced to the second round at Wimbledon 2023, which took place on the grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London.

In the first round, the 16-year-old Russian defeated Xiyu Wang from China. The match lasted 2 hours and 24 minutes and ended with a score of 6:4, 3:6, 7:5.

In the second round match of the turf tournament, Mirra Andreeva will play against Barbora Kreychikova from the Czech Republic, who beat England’s Heather Watson in straight sets in the first round match.

Wimbledon 2023 started on July 3 and will run until July 16. Russians and Belarusians in the tournament are considered neutral. Russian and Belarusian tennis players were denied the right to participate in Wimbledon due to the CBO being held on Ukrainian soil in 2022.

The BBC website reported that athletes from these countries also had to provide proof of their refusal to sponsor companies that fell under British sanctions.
