Defender Mario Fernandez will not be returning to CSKA Moscow anytime soon. Journalist Fabio Aleixu wrote this on his Twitter.
According to the source, CSKA could not agree with the Brazilian “Internacional” to pay compensation of € 366,000. The player will consider offers from other teams, if any.
It was learned that before the last game of CSKA in the 2021/22 season, 31-year-old Fernandez decided to take a career break indefinitely. He returned to Brazil to rest and be with his family. In September, Mario and his wife had a son. His contract with the Russian club expires in 2024.
In December, CSKA allowed Fernandez to play a one-year loan at Brazil Internacional. He left the club in April 2023.
Fernandez played in the red-blues for ten years, winning three championships and the Russian Super Cup, as well as the country’s Super Cup once. Accepting Russian citizenship, he took part in the Russian national team at the 2018 World Championships, when the national team led by Stanislav Cherchesov reached the quarterfinals.
Tom and former head coach of Cameroon national team Valery Nepomniachtchi positive reacted on the possible return of defender Mario Fernandez to CSKA.
