Former third racket of the world, bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics Nadezhda Petrova, in an interview with socialbites.ca, spoke about a superstition that could prevent Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik from passing the first round of Wimbledon.
“I wish Bublik a successful performance at Wimbledon. But there is a very interesting statistic: all the winners of the Halle tournament subsequently lost in the first round of Wimbledon (Bublik beat the Russian Andrey Rublev in the final with a score of 6:3, 3:6, 6:3 – socialbites.ca). Will Alexander not be able to stop thinking about it? Still, tennis players are very superstitious athletes. I hope no one will tell him about it and he will continue to play with the same confidence at Wimbledon and be a dangerous opponent for top players,” said Petrova.
Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam of the 2023 season. It will be played on All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club courts from 3-16 July.
Former Olympic medalist judicial Rublev’s defeat in the final was “perfect preparation” for Wimbledon.
