Ovechkin climbs the list of goalscorers, bypasses Malkin Jagr and Fedorov

“Washington” – “Florida” – 2:3 Overtime

Florida tied the series with Washington and defeated the Capitals on ice in Game 4 in overtime. At the first timeout, the score was 1:1 after goals from TJ Oshi and Carter Verage. The second quarter was goalless and in the final 20 minutes Evgeny Kuznetsov gave Caps the lead after Alexander Ovechkin’s pass, but with two minutes left in regular time, Sam Rinehart saved the Panthers from defeat. And in overtime, Verage’s second goal led the guests to the victory.

Moreover, the decisive goal could not be realized: the referees examined the video replay of the episode for interception of the Washington goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov. In the end, however, the presiding judge ruled that there was no violation and Florida counted the victory.

The leader of “Washington” Ovechkin in this game did not show sniper qualities. However, a pass to Kuznetsov allowed him to score 140 (72 + 68) in the NHL playoffs and reach 37th place in Stanley Cup history by this indicator. He surpassed Jacques Lemaire on the list of top scorers in the playoffs and is now two points ahead of Ron Francis. Also, in assists, Alexander surpassed several players at once – Igor Larionov, Frank Mahovlich, Sandis Ozoliņš and Bobby Hull, equal to Sergey Gonchar, Brad Richards and Brad Marchand.

“I think we played well in the third quarter, but somehow the game was turned upside down, there were bad rebounds. But I said before that it would be a long and difficult series. We should forget about this game and move on,” Ovechkin told American journalists after the game.

Markus Johansson could have saved the game for Washington – he ran a one-on-one with Florida goalie Sergei Bobrovsky minutes before the finish, but the Russian goalie made a great save and prevented his opponent from nearly converting a lead. After the match, Panthers head coach Andrew Brunnett thanked Sergei.

“We played a great game and played our game. Bobrovsky made an incredibly important save when he was about to replace him – luckily I didn’t. I took a risk and it brought results, ”the expert admitted.

We also note that Bobrovsky was recognized as the second star of the match, Samsonov – the third.

Pittsburgh 7-2 Rangers

Pittsburgh strengthened their advantage in this series and took a 3-1 lead. Game four with the Rangers did not start off well for the Penguins – they already gave up at the third minute. However, the home team quickly corrected the situation and won 4:1 in the middle of the second period. Rangers regain another puck – Jamie Fox scores from Artemy Panarin’s pass. But even before the second break the score was 6:2 and in the final part of the game Evgeni Malkin sent the seventh goal to the guests’ gates.

From the “Penguins” went the Russian goalkeeper “Rangers” Igor Shesterkin, who missed five goals in this match. The team’s head coach, Gerard Gallan, made statements in his defense, promising that Shesterkin would play in the fifth game and said he was the best goalkeeper in the league.

I think Shesterkin is very upset, but he will be back and ready to win the next game, I have absolutely no doubts about him. I was more disappointed in the team than he was. “Igor is the best goalkeeper in the NHL,” said Gallan.

It is noteworthy that the opponents also pay attention to the level of Shesterkin. Pittsburgh Pittsburgh forward Jeff Carter knew no bounds in compliments directed at him.

“Everyone sees that Shesterkin is a very strong goalkeeper, maybe the best in the league. We try to make it harder for him to work and thank God we succeeded,” Carter said.

As part of the Penguins, Malkin scored another feat. His goal against Rangers was 66th in the playoffs, allowing the Russians to reach a clear third place in club history for goals in the Stanley Cup. According to this indicator, Jaromir bypassed Jagr.

In total, Malkin has 174 playoff games and 177 points (66 + 111). Evgeny also broke Sergei Fedorov’s record for points in the playoffs among the Russians.

Nashville 3-5 Colorado

The series was optimal for Colorado, which beat Nashville in four games. In the last game, the “predators” fought to the end and it was 3:2 at the start of the third period.

However, it was left to the last guests, and Russian striker Valery Nichushkin became the author of the winning goal.

Accordingly, in the next round, Colorado, Minnesota-St. Louis will play the winner of the pair. Thus, Nichushkin will go on the ice either against Kirill Kaprizov or against Vladimir Tarasenko.

On the next game day of the Stanley Cup, Washington captain Alexander Ovechkin scored a point thanks to an assist, but lost the team to Florida. However, Ovechkin is ranked 37th on the list of best goalscorers in NHL playoff history. In another game, Pittsburgh defeated the Rangers, Penguin leader Evgeni Malkin beat Jaromir Jagr to the team name in the playoffs and also broke Sergey Fedorov’s record for shooting in the Stanley Cup among the Russians. “socialbites.ca” – about the main events of the day in the overseas league.
