Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico was seriously injured after falling off a horse. This is reported in the Spanish edition of El Mira.

The incident occurred in El Rocío, Spain, where the goalkeeper went after the Parisians officially conceded the title of French champions of the 2022/23 season.

According to the source, the 29-year-old goalkeeper fell while riding in Spain and injured his head. The football player was taken by helicopter to the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville. Doctors, whose condition was deemed critical, inserted an endotracheal tube into the athlete’s trachea to ensure full functioning of the airway.

According to the Spanish portal Sore, Sergio Rico was injured when the horse got nervous and threw him out of the saddle, and then stepped on his head with a hoof. All this led to a cerebral hemorrhage, doctors are trying to save the football player.

ESPN reported that when doctors arrived at the hospital, they sent Sergio Rico to the intensive care unit.

Paris Saint-Germain quickly responded to the incident with the goalkeeper by posting a private message on their social networks.

“PSG became aware of the incident with Sergio Rico this Sunday and is in constant communication with their fans. The club community gives them full support,” he said.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been playing for PSG since 2020. He is a graduate of Sevilla and defended the colors of the Spanish club for nine years. Later, the goalkeeper played for London’s Fulham and PSG teams.

Rico has not played in the Parisians first team this season. In total, he has 11 matches for PSG in nearly three years with the team. His current contract runs until the summer of 2024. According to the authorized portal Transfermarkt, the 29-year-old goalkeeper’s current transfer value is estimated at 4 million euros.

In November 2022, a bandit tried to rob Sergio Rico’s home. The actor frightened the attacker, forcing him to flee the scene.

Later, French law enforcement caught the criminal. It turned out to be a 17-year-old schoolboy studying in one of the educational institutions of the 20th district of Paris. The assailant confessed and was detained, after which the juvenile judge was released pending investigations under police supervision.

Recall that on May 27 PSG drew with Strasbourg – the match ended with a score of 1: 1. The only goal of the Parisians in this match came from Lionel Messi.

For PSG to win their next title in Ligue 1, they had to not lose this match with two rounds left in the championship. 20 years later, Lance, who will play in the Champions League group stage, finished second.

This title is PSG’s second consecutive and 11th place in the club’s history, allowing them to beat those currently playing in Ligue 2 Saint-Étienne and reach a clear first place in the number of league titles in France.

Recall that in the 2020/21 season Lille won the championship.
