Former Zenit head coach Vlastimil Petrzhela spoke about the career development of current blue-white-blue mentor Sergei Semak.
“Being a manager at Zenit is easy because the team has quality players. But working with weak players is more difficult. Semak does not leave his seat. It has no place to go. He will not be invited to any European club. Semak feels good and comfortable at Zenit as he works with the best players,” says Petrzhela sports24.
Semak became the head of Zenit in 2018 and worked in the coaching staff from 2013 to 2016. Under his leadership, St. Petersburg won the Russian Championship five times, the Country Cup once and the Super Cup three times. Semak was named the best coach of the year twice.
The blue-white-navy blue team defeated Spartak (3:2) on May 7 and became the champion of the Russian Premier League (RPL) for the fifth time in a row. Claudinho, Andrey Mostovoy and Ivan Sergeev scored against the winners. As part of the Muscovites, Keita Balde and Quincy Promes distinguished themselves (from the penalty spot).
After the championship, the Petersburgers drew three times.
