Transgender cyclist Emily Bridges has accused British Cycling of “genocide” for banning trans athletes from women’s competitions.
Bridges said the federation took the decision and committed an “act of violence”.
“This is an organization with homophobic coaches who promote eating disorders and do nothing against the bullying of their riders.
You don’t care how you diversify the sport. You want to look your best, but you can’t even do that. Cycling is still one of the whitest and flattest sports, and you don’t mind it, ”the transgender athlete wrote on the social network.
He also said he would consider a plan to move away from the UK, which he described as a “terrible island” because of British Cycling’s decision.
Bridges broke the national junior men’s record in 2018. She came out as transgender in October 2020 and started hormone therapy last year to lower her testosterone levels.
The federation has announced that trans cyclists can compete with men in the so-called open category. Those whose gender is determined as female at birth will be able to participate in women’s competitions.
Elena Vyalbe, Former President of the Russian Ski Racing Federation spoke on the participation of transgender people in sports competitions.
