Two-time Olympic champion Alexander Kozhevnikov spoke about the words of Luc Tardif, president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
Tardif, in his meeting at the organization’s annual congress, said that the decisions to remove the Russian and Belarusian teams from the 2024 World Cup are not political, but aim to protect the competition and the Russian and Belarusian athletes.
“The whole world is laughing already. If the Tardif’s head is not working, what kind of leader is he? Luke talks about keeping competition. So if it can’t provide protection, it sucks. But we can also come with our National Guard for protection. He probably wants a Tardif”, – quotes Kozhevnikov Vprognoze.ru.
Tardif also said that the decision on the performance of the Russian and Belarusian national teams in the tournaments to be held under the auspices of the organization will be made in March next year. Both teams will miss the 2024 World Championship and other IIHF competitions to be held in the Czech Republic.
Recall that the International Ice Hockey Federation previously decided to exclude Russian hockey players from participation in international tournaments, even with neutral status, and in 2023 it took from Russia the right to host the host junior world championship.
In early July 2022, the IIHF disciplinary committee rejected the Russian Ice Hockey Federation’s (RHF) appeal for admission to international competitions.
Previously at the Court of Arbitration for Sport declarationThat they do not see the suspension of Russian football clubs as a discriminatory decision.
