The World Taekwondo Federation has allowed 23 athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the World Championships. It has been reported official website of the organization.
“Following the completion of a three-step verification process established by the World Taekwondo Council on April 3, 23 athletes have been provisionally approved to participate as Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs). Upon arrival in Baku, they will be required to sign a declaration obliging them to comply with the conditions of participation. The registration of two athletes was rejected on the grounds that they did not meet the criteria.
The World Taekwondo Championship will be held from 29 May to 6 June in Baku (Azerbaijan).
Recall that at the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.
At a meeting of the IOC executive committee on March 28, it was recommended that the Russians be allowed a neutral status if the athletes did not actively support the hostilities. Athletes representing law enforcement and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
Previously on the Russian national gymnastics team urged “to stop humiliating and to stand up with a hand”.
