International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said he would like to see athletes from all national teams at the 2024 Summer Olympics to be held in Paris.
“Athletes from all countries should be allowed to participate in qualifying competitions that are already being held,” says the Bulgarian edition of Bach. “Lightning Sport”.
The IOC president also expressed hope that a growing number of federations will follow the committee’s recommendations regarding the admission of athletes to qualifying.
Russian athletes cannot qualify in many Olympic sports due to suspension from international competitions. In particular, Russian boxers were not allowed to participate in the European Games, a qualifier for the 2024 Games.
On 17 May, the International Handball Federation announced that the Russian men’s team had lost its chance to participate in the Olympic Games, and the women’s national team could only qualify if they were accepted into the World Championship.
At a meeting of the IOC executive committee on March 28, it was recommended that the Russians be allowed a neutral status if the athletes did not actively support the hostilities. Athletes representing law enforcement and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
