Russian Calgary defender Nikita Zadorov has explained why his team has failed to reach the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs this season.

“The team couldn’t make it to the playoffs. So I could play better. And others can. I won’t spare myself because I played well. We were all on that ship, we screwed everything up and missed the playoffs. Even though we were one of the favorites for the pre-season cup, in the end nothing happened.
