Alexander Dyukov, President of the Russian Football Union (RFU), said that if the clubs are not satisfied with the new format of the Russian Cup arrangement, the organization may return to the old traditional plan.

“We need to discuss the current format with the clubs. Maybe there will be some changes. If suddenly all the clubs decide that it is necessary to return to the previous format, then we can go back.

In anticipation of the start of this season, the format of the Russian Cup has been changed. The updated project uses the Double Elimination system, where the team leaves the tournament after only two losses.

Competitions were divided into two groups – Russian Premier League Road (RPL) and Regions Road. The principle of holding the tournament in May 2022 was proposed by the organizers of the Russian Premier League Cup.
