The accident occurred on the night of May 11-12 on the 30th kilometer of the Minsk highway. Football player Alexander Karakin flew over a mound at a speed of about 200 kilometers per hour, after which his car was turned upside down and thrown into the middle of the road. It was reported that the cause of the accident may have been due to the athlete driving with the wrong tires. While the car was heavily damaged, Karakin and his operator, who were in the car at the time of the accident, were taken to the hospital.
It was learned that Karakin died in the intensive care unit as a result of his injuries on the morning of 12 May. His death was confirmed by the Moscow region prosecutor’s office.
The website of the department states that the prosecutor’s office supervised the establishment of all the circumstances of the incident, as well as the progress and results of the procedural control carried out by the Administration of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Odintsovo city district.
The Baza Telegram channel reported that 500 Club members gathered at the site of the accident – owners of cars whose engines produced more than 500 horsepower. In the same place, races are regularly held at night, in which Karakin also participates, according to media reports.
After the death of the former football player, the Telegram channel Mash published the details of what happened. According to the source, the accident occurred due to aquaplaning, the car was equipped with Toyo R888R semi-slick tires – non-drained sports tires that provide better grip on asphalt on race tracks. Karakin was driving alone on the highway, no cars nearby, on his way home, at one point the former player changed lanes to the left lane where the road was wet – that night the asphalt was flooded by road workers.
After this movement, the sports car, which was traveling at high speed, lost its traction as a result of aquaplaning and crashed into the bump.
According to the news of 112 Telegram channel, doctors fought for his life for hours, but they could not save the man. Doctors diagnosed the victim with a fracture of the skull, ribs, and femur, as well as hemopneumothorax. The operator’s status is unknown.
The deceased’s wife said that Karakin bought a car only last year, and that he preferred to ride a motorcycle before that. She also admitted that her husband does not approve of her hobby.

Karakin ended his professional career in 2018 after failing to play in the Russian top league. The player was a graduate of Spartak Moscow, in 2009 he moved to another metropolitan club – Dynamo, but did not play in the main team. He also played in the club’s double with such players as Artur Yusupov, Anton Shunin and Sergey Terekhov. In 2011, the right-back joined Khimki, near Moscow, and played with the team for a year in the National Football League (FNL, now the First Division). However, he failed to gain a foothold as part of the Khimki team, after which he moved to Reutov Prialit and officially announced his retirement in 2018.
It is noteworthy that the day before, on May 11, information became available about another accident that affected a person connected with Khimki. Football coach Georgy Dzhioev had a terrible car accident in Kabardino-Balkaria. According to Metaratings.ru, the car he was traveling in was hit and is currently in specialist intensive care, where his condition is being assessed as serious. Dzhioev worked as an assistant to Spartak Gogniev, while heading Alania Vladikavkaz and Khimki.
