Nurmagomedov met with Patricky Freire at the joint main event of the Bellator 288 tournament in Chicago on November 18. The fight for the title went through all five rounds, after which the Russian fighter won by unanimous decision. Thus, Nurmagomedov became the new lightweight champion of the promotion.
Usman remains undefeated with 16 mixed martial arts fights won, and has been victorious in all of those fights, including eight knockout victories.
