The organization punishes the Nervión club for setting off fireworks on the outward and return journey and throwing objects.
The Disciplinary Committee of UEFA has made the sanctions public to the clubs who played in the quarter-finals of the various European competitions this season 2022-2023 and imposed a hefty fine of 45,000 euros from their matches in this round against Manchester United.
As for the first leg, UEFA has imposed a fine of 6,000 euros for “inappropriate team behaviour” and refers to Article 15(4) of its Disciplinary Code which penalizes “insults to players or others present at matches”.
Before the game at Old Trafford, he also fined 1,500 euros for setting off fireworks. The same offense was also sanctioned in the declaration, but with a much higher amount of 12,000 euros.
In addition, the fine for the return ends with another 25,000 euros for throwing objects on the field and specifically for “throwing objects that could endanger the physical integrity of other participants in the game or affect the orderly conduct of the game.”
Regarding this last penalty, a priori, the only objects thrown on the field were the harmless rolls of paper thrown at the exit of the teams, which practically did not affect the game, since the Sevilla workers removed them it pretty quickly.
Oddly enough, Sevila has seen incidents in other Europa League away matches against Fenerbahce and PSV. UEFA imposed less severe economic sanctions, although it did announce the partial closure of the stands in both stadiums. From a strictly economic point of view, however, throwing lighters at Dmitrovic in Istanbul was fined 30,000 euros and the attack on the goalkeeper himself in Eindhoven by a PSV fan was fined 20,000 euros.
