Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, supported the 2006 ice dancing Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov, who went into rehabilitation after a serious illness.

On May 8 for the first time since January, the skater posted a message on a social network thanking her fans, relatives and friends, as well as doctors for helping her recover.

It became known on January 10 that Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized. It was stated that he was taken to the intensive care unit due to pneumonia and was dependent on artificial lung ventilation, and his condition was reported to be extremely serious.

Later, the athlete was transferred to a hospital in Kommunarka, where he was resuscitated and connected to ECMO. The media wrote that Kostomarov underwent several operations to amputate his limbs due to the consequences of the disease.
