It was in 1996-97 when they first implemented short tournaments in Mexican football. Earlier, at the end of the 17 days, the Liguilla was played directly with the best eight classified; For the Guardianes 2020 tournament, the rematch returned after a 12-year break, a format that gives four more teams the chance to compete in the famous Fiesta Grande.
Only Pachuca, Morelia and Chivas were the teams to take the title by qualifying for the Liguilla since the rematch, but the Herd also knew how to become champions from the first four places in the game.
Of the 12 national titles held by the Rojiblancos, three were won through short tournaments. Only two rose after finishing in the top four places in the overall ranking (Summer 1997 and Clausura 2017).
