Swedish Fencing Federation bans its athletes from competing with Russians

The Swedish Fencing Federation has announced that it has banned its athletes from participating in competitions with Russians and Belarusians. It has been reported press office organizations.

The decision applies to competitions at the Scandinavian, European and international level. The statement also said that the Swedish Fencing Federation, along with other Nordic federations, opposes the decision of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) to allow Russians and Belarusians to participate in international tournaments.

On January 25, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that it is considering the possibility of allowing Russian athletes who do not support the conduct of a special operation on Ukrainian territory to participate in international competitions in a neutral status.

This year, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) decided to send back Russian and Belarusian fencers. It should come into effect from the second half of April 2023 for the World Fencing Championships to be held in Milan in July. Russian and Belarusian fencers must compete on a neutral status.
