The Argentine striker will take every chance he gets in a City jersey, but he’s too good to sit on the bench for so long.
With the obvious exception of Erling Haland, no one has a better number of goals per minute in the team of the Manchester City That Julian Alvarez. In fact, Haaland is the only player with more than 10 league starts to score with a higher percentage than Álvarez in all competitions.
But City’s second most efficient goalscorer ranks 16th in terms of minutes played in City’s Premier League side, having started just eight of their top 32 games. He has played fewer minutes in the league than Joao Cancelo, who has not played for City since mid-January after leaving for Bayern Munich on loan.
In his first season in Europe, the Argentine striker has proven to be a very productive player and fits perfectly into Pep Guardiola’s system. But despite his impressive performance and remarkable work rate, he still finds himself on the bench.
For a player of his quality who is in the prime of his career at 23, not to mention being a recent World Cup winner, he needs to play a lot more than he has this season.
And after his winning performance against Fulham, he deserves the least to start against West Ham on Wednesday.
