Barcelona considers possibility to qualify for Asian Champions League in the face of sanctions

Barcelona is exploring the possibility of playing in international tournaments outside of Europe, namely Asia. It has been reported daily sport.

It’s all about the situation with Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice president of the technical refereeing committee. Recall that the Barcelona prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit against the club and its former presidents, Josep Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, for possible corruption and payment to Negreira. He received around €7.3 million from the Catalan club over 17 years.

It was reported that Barcelona could face heavy penalties. Thus, the club can be excluded from European competition.

The club conducted a study to see if it could host competitions outside of Europe in the event of sanctions. In the case of sanctions, one of the options is Asian competitions.

Leaving behind the 32nd week in La Liga, Barcelona continues to lead. The difference with Real Madrid in second place is 11 points. Atlético are in the top three.

It is worth noting that this season, Barcelona did not make it to the Champions League play-offs, but guaranteed participation for next season.
