Barça has an 18 million purchase option from July 1, but will it be executed or not?
New poker game between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid. In recent seasons, there have been many names of players involved in various operations between the two clubs, with different results in the market. Villa, Arda Turan, Luis Suárez, Saúl, Joao Féli and Memphis are some examples. Now the penultimate episode has a Belgian designation of origin. It’s about the future of Yannick Carrasco. Last January, both clubs confirmed the transfer of Memphis Depay to the rojiblanco team for 3 million euros plus another variable. As part of this negotiation, both institutions have agreed as an independent operation a purchase option for the Belgian winger, for an amount of approximately 18 million euros. If Barça pay that money to Atlético after that date, they will take the player with them. If he does not exercise that option, Carrasco will continue in the mattress club, as he still has a contract running until June 30, 2024.
Barely four months after that negotiation, the scenario has changed considerably. Especially for FC Barcelona. Forced to cut the salary bill by some 200 million euros and knowing that they have multiple problems with “fair play”, the Barça team weighs a lot on the possibility of ultimately not paying what Carrasco has negotiated. The player interests Xavi and he likes the technical office, but at the moment, as GOAL has been informed, they would have the intention of renegotiating that transfer down, paying less money than agreed. At Barça, they have an extraordinary relationship with the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi, a close friend of Joan Laporta’s president, and also believe they could offer several players in a possible operation to make it cheaper.
Instead, Atlético sticks to what was agreed in January. If Barça want Carrasco, let him scratch his pocket for the agreed money. And if not, then Carrasco will continue to wear rojiblanco next season as he is a key player for Cholo Simeone. And if a Barça player is interested, because some of them love the Metropolitan, the club will try independently of the Carrasco operation. And the Belgian, what? Well, the player is very calm, he is focused on finishing the season in the best way possible, he has put his future in the hands of his agent and he knows very well that whether Barça pays or not, he has the confidence of Simeone has to keep going. . There are barely two months left until the end of the season and yet another poke match between Atlético and Barça has just begun. The deadline, July 1. Each club plays its cards. Barça, to renegotiate and offer a bargaining chip to make the operation cheaper. Atleti, the one who tightens the rope and makes sure they pay to the last euro of the agreement signed last January.
