James McLeod, Head of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Department for Relations with National Olympic Committees, criticized Ukraine’s decision to ban its athletes from competing with representatives of Russia and Belarus.
“We have seen very harsh language from the Ukrainian government regarding the decision taken by the IOC Executive Committee. They went so far as to ban their athletes from participating in competitions in which Russians and Belarusians could be represented.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine banned the delegations of the Ukrainian national teams from participating in competitions where Russian and Belarusian athletes were admitted.
At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on March 28, it was recommended that the Russians be allowed to have a neutral status, if the athletes were not actively engaged in supporting hostilities.
