Jiri Gamza, Vice-President of the International Biathlon Union (IBU), opposed the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions.

“We have nothing to decide or change our position. We do not agree with the decision of the International Olympic Committee to return the Russians to competitions under a neutral flag. The suspension should continue until it leaves the territory of Ukraine,” he said. idnes.cz.

Recall that the International Biathlon Union announced last spring its decision to allow Belarusian and Russian biathletes to participate in the World Cup and IBU stages only as neutral athletes. As a result, the Russians decided to skip these competitions. In September, the organization extended the suspension period.

At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on March 28, it was recommended that the Russians be allowed to have a neutral status, if the athletes were not actively engaged in supporting hostilities. Athletes representing law enforcement and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
