CAFA will consider inviting Russian youth and women’s teams to their tournament

The Central Asian Football Federation (CAFA) may invite Russia’s youth and women’s teams to participate in tournaments under its auspices. In this respect “Sport Express” reported in the organization’s press service.

“We received a refusal from the RFU. They explained why. We act with understanding. In our calendar schedule there are always several youth tournaments between national teams. Perhaps the Russian national teams will be invited to the next tournaments, for example, women’s or other youth tournaments. But so far nothing is known with certainty,” he said.

The Central Asian Football Federation’s championship will be held in June 2023. Teams from Tajikistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan will participate.

Recall that in March 2022 the participation of Russian clubs and national team in tournaments under the auspices of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the International Football Federation (FIFA) was suspended.

On March 23, the Russian team drew 1:1 with Iran in Tehran. On March 26, Valery Karpin’s St. Petersburg beat the Iraqi national team 2-0.
