Veniamin Mandrykin, the former goalkeeper of CSKA and the Russian national football team, said that it would consider Russian athletes who accept the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommendations regarding participation in international tournaments as traitors.
“Under what conditions is it unacceptable to sign a document condemning our country and its president? These people will be considered traitors to me, ”says the former football player “Match TV”.
On April 15, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sanctioned a number of Russian athletes, including Mandrykin.
Recall that at the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee made an appeal to international sports federations and advised not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in any competitions.
At a meeting of the IOC executive committee on March 28, it was recommended to allow the Russians to have a neutral status, if the athletes were not actively engaged in supporting hostilities. Athletes representing law enforcement and armed forces will not be allowed to compete.
