With almost half a century devoted to the development of karate and to a great deal of national and international recognition, Elche sensei José Abad, VII of Budosophy in Elche.a congress Spanish Martial Arts Cultural Association (TACAME) It will bring together 25 great teachers from different disciplines in the city on 5 and 6 May.

With a monographic theme “The Art of Dodge”Karate, Kung Fu, Judo, Jujitsu, Taekwondo and Hapkido teachers will share their knowledge at a national meeting to be held in collaboration with the Elche City Council and the city’s Walkers Association.

Abad is a member of the International Ryukyu Karate Research Association in Okinawa. and the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai from Kyoto (Japan) and the Shigan Honor Award for the exemplary Camino en el Karate and the gold medal from the Spanish Martial Arts Council.

always active

Sensei Abad has already retired from training, but She continues to devotedly share her knowledge on preventing violence, giving lectures for healthcare professionals, and against gender-based violence and classroom violence. He currently has a fifth Dan in Karate Jutsu. Although he is not one of those who truly value degrees, because for him, “The purpose of martial arts is not to achieve the holistic development of the individual as a person through martial practice, whether he knows how to defend himself or not. They are the best tools for a child’s holistic development because of their psychomotiveness and the values of the code of conduct: personality formation, honesty, effort, perseverance, respect for others… What should it be? have children been vaccinated? It’s not a sport, because we don’t reward training for medals. Martial art is a philosophy of life whose main goal is to become a better person. And if a dangerous situation happens at a certain moment, you know how to manage it, but always on the defensive”.

beyond the clichés

In fact, Buddhism goes beyond the traditional martial arts stereotype that its teachers jealously guard their knowledge.. «The philosophy of this event is the opposite, sharing martial arts. In fact, one of the requirements of this activity is that all teachers, regardless of the Danes we have, go to learn with a white belt and the illusion of a white belt. And we’re all here to showcase our work. Everyone is equal here and we all learn from each other. There is also no fee to submit your information. Everyone pays their own expenses.”

Budosophy “is a martial art philosophy beyond practice as a martial in itself.Philosophy must have some components of education, respect and values”, explains José Abad.

Like this, “Shows like Cobra Kai can do more harm than anything because their image of martial arts is wrong. Our goal is not to win championships or be better than the enemy, but to be a better you every day. The goal is for each of them to improve every day and overcome life’s obstacles. And that effort can be used on any day-to-day issue.

Federated or not

Need a federation to practice martial arts? “NO. The only thing is that they know you if you want to take a degree test, which is not my case, but for the avoidance of any doubt, I am still a member of the federation, now I have a pension card. I do not follow the federation’s line, which deals only with sports competitions. I’m there, but I don’t accept that Karate has developed that much., because they made it into a competitive model where you’re nothing if you don’t win tournaments. And I don’t think that’s the foundation of education,” Abad says.

This entity Budosophy was “established to preserve the cultural and educational assets of the martial arts, but not to organize championships.rather than bringing together teachers from different disciplines to share their knowledge and keep it safe”, explains the teacher from Elche.

“We are all the same”

“No one is better or better than anyone else in Budosophy, and we are all willing to learn from other martial arts because ultimately they all have one thing in common, movement,” Abad said. In fighting, there is no difference between the different styles. The goal is always the same: maintain your integrity, defend yourself. Martial arts emerged in every region and every country according to the needs they had. So, is it necessary to learn to defend yourself? “Yes, because man has reached the place where he defends himself. First predators, then human invaders. Defense systems have emerged throughout history since ancient times. It was the eastern peoples and especially the Japanese who developed their defenses the most. Those who, through Zen Buddhism, seek to improve the individual through martial arts practices, not just for self-defense.

It is no accident that this event is held in Elche. First, it is organized by teacher Abad, but at the same time, «the city, like the province of Alicante in general, has a wide range to practice martial arts (judo, Taekwondo and karate). We also have exploding kickboxing and boxing.

Get to know Elche

Budosophy, which will take place on 5 and 6 May, will include theoretical and practical presentations by the speakers, as well as afternoon trainings on the Elche beaches. «We met to share her passion for martial arts and also to get to know Elche. The beach and the gastronomy have been an important incentive as there are many people who have never been”, says sensei Abad.
