Russian tennis player Rublev on winning the tournament in Monte Carlo: I’m in tears

Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev commented on his victory over Dane Holger Rune in the final of the Masters series tournament in Monte Carlo. Transmits words press office ATP.

“I have tears. I do not know what to say. I worked hard to win these Masters. 1-4 down, 0/30, then I save breakpoints thinking I have no chance of winning. But somehow I succeeded. Rublev, I had lost faith in victory in the previous finals, but today I said to myself, “Even if you lose, please believe in yourself until the end”.

Meeting Finished With a score of 5:7, 6:2, 7:5. The duration of the match was 2 hours 36 minutes.

Note that Rublev won the Masters series tournament for the first time in his career. Note that the Russian athlete won €892,590 in prize money.

In the 1/2 final, the Dane defeated the Italian Yannick Sinner and the Russian came out stronger than the American Taylor Fritz.

Rublev played for the second time in the final of the tournament. In 2021, he lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

Recall that Russian tennis players perform at international tournaments as neutral athletes. The only tournament the Russians missed was Wimbledon 2022. They were returned this year.

Last year, Wimbledon organizers refused to allow Russian and Belarusian tennis players to compete. In addition, players from these countries are banned from playing in lawn tournaments held under the auspices of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) in England.
